This was the first in a 3-series project that was going to be entered into a Utah art contest. I ran across the ad for this while seeking scholarship money and I knew this contest was the one for me. The ad read, "Draw anything you want as long as it's sci-fi or fantasy. Grand prize is a trip to Utah to accept your $5000." Wow, that's right up my alley and there are barely any guidelines, so I got right to work. I finished this piece up and prepared a second piece. My roomates were a bit skeptical about the contest and then I muttered, "Utah contest ran by L. Ron Hubbard." My roommates flipped out and the shit hit the fan after I did some research on Mr. Hubbard and Scientology. Even if I had a chance at being a finalist, I still wouldn't have felt comfortable knowing they would fly me over there by myself and 'hang out' for a couple of days. So I dropped it. Unfortunately I never finished the second piece and I just simply lost motivation on the entire contest.
