Gathered from my personal surveys, I encountered a lot of people's reasoning for not liking electronic music is because it's so subjective - that it leaves everything to the imagination. I think that is the absolute best part about electronic music, the fact that everyone illustrates a different vision through their own unique translation.
One of the genres that hits me the hardest is Drum & Bass. Originally derived from Hardcore (breakbeats way back), to Jungle, to Drum & Bass and now spiraled off into many other sub-genres like Hardstep and Neurofunk. The whole Drum & Bass genre blew its lid when Tech Step rampaged in with names like Dom & Roland, Ed Rush, and Bad Company to name a few.
I could never quite put my drawing finger into illustrating stomping robots that better represented Tech Step but I could draw its aggressive, militant style through a raging gorilla that carried an aggressive young figure acting as its commanding DJ. My roots lay with Jungle more than Drum & Bass but my preferences was and still is embedded in the hard speeds of Tech Step. That was the whole purpose of this illustration. Jungle had a much more tribal essence to it while Tech Step just made it that much more angry with a sci-fi twist.
Every time I'm at an event listening to Tech Step, I see an out-of-control gorilla ripping through the lands with a small child saddling his shoulders, directing the gorilla's chaotic run. I hope to one day be able to animate these two characters to give you an idea of how I see Drum & Bass in action.
