"I Spit on Your Grave" Movie Review

Behold, the lamest movie title of all time. What's even worst is that the original title was Day of the Woman. That is oh-so hardcore. Regardless, it is quite the hardcore movie. It's not really creative but definitely brutal and hard to bear for the most part. The characters are horrible, there is no twist, and there's nothing truly Sique about it. It's just a movie about a girl that gets gang-raped, recovers and returns with a vengeance, only to deliver punishment far worst than what her assailants put her through.

Pyramid Head Digital Painting

There were no updates last week for the entire week - sketches included. Why? Because I've been hammering away at this beast of a digital painting. It's my second one, it's not awesome but I am exhausted. The good thing is that I found a great new outlet for my coloring and I'm able to achieve so much more. Next up will most likely be a remake of the Gun God or this girl, but only after I do another version of this digital painting.

This is my first full-colored piece in 4 years.

Sique is now translatable

Ever since I put up the Oldboy Movie Review with streaming video, I have received more visitors from across the sea so I decided to find a code that can easily translate this site into different languages. This is a good chance for me to give back to my people but more importantly, I'll be doing more foreign movie reviews in the future, so I figured why not. Google has a great translating system and iSnoop came up with a very clean and small piece of code to execute it. The pull-down to choose your langauge is located at the bottom of the left menu and it comes with 9 different languages. I would like to greet our new visitors...

Note: Not everyone will be able to see the first 3 Asian languages properly.

Update: I have been testing these languages in different browsers and guess what? Internet Explorer still blows. If you are using IE and have chosen a different language, you will experience the following: 1) slow as hell scrolling / surfing and possibly 2) a really twacked-looking left menu. However, there are no issues if you're using Firefox.

"Oldboy" Movie Review

The only thing I liked from Korea was Kim Chi until I saw Oldboy. I thought it was going to be some cheap Asian clone of Clockwork Orange but it's far from it. It's going to be a new classic. I would suggest that you don't even read this article and just go get the movie because the less you know about it, the more vulnerable you'll be for mind fuckery.

I have also put together a movie rating system on what I think makes a sick movie and there's no movie more appropriate then Oldboy to be the first rated on this system.

Axon Clothing Launches

Axon Clothing is finally live. These designs were created using a lot of my traditonal methods and they're all printed on form-fitting, comfortable cotton shirts that easily rival American Apparel. If was a cute baby I would still punch it

Death from Above Tshirt?

About 10 days ago I drew this for the daily sketches. I thought the theme and concept might look decent on a t-shirt so I entered it into Threadless.com. If the design gets enough votes then it will be made into a t-shirt. Go check it out and vote for it, if you like it, of course. 100th Sketch

For my 100th sketch, here is a Minion. Think of him as a 40-feet tall slug with a 40-ton appetite that eats anything from cats to freeways. I thought I'd bring him out on this small occasion because he's going to play a part in a big project that I'm working on. Production on the project should start this summer and will hopefully be done by 2009-ish. Right after that I'll probably die in my sleep from exhaustion.

So now that I can archive my first 100 sketches, I will continue onwards with more sketches and maybe even do weekly themes. The future is looking to be more forgiving on free time so I'm itching to dust off the art case and get some color into the mix.

4 Black & White additions

It's Spring 2006 and you know what that means. Widespread panic of the bird flu and wet car accidents, but I prefer to clean. I found my old portfolio carrying cases, you know, the ones labeled art tard in training. The cases were different from the last time I saw them, they're godamn alive. The big raging mold party eating away at the moist leather tells me that I should have taken better care of my work and the many pieces of ruined art inside confirmed it. I had to throw a way a bunch of stuff but not before taking pictures of it all. Sorry, but I didn't want to scan wet fungus so we're left with just photos. Now, of all the ones that survived, these ones were in the best condition and even good enough to keep. I found a bunch of unfinished art and other garbage that I'll update with soon. These images will be sorted under Black & White Art.

The End of The Beginning

This is the S.N.I.P.A.H. Squad's 10-year tribute to Drum & Bass entitled "The End of The Beginning." The album artwork was an intimate project and definitely one that was fun to do because...oh I don't know, probably because it's all black and red. Sique on CSS Mania

I submitted my site to cssmania.com a couple of days ago and I actually got in, nice. I currently have an average score of 6, bleh. I kind of regret not submitting at a later time when I have more things added to the site...like that nasty tree you see there. Yeah, it's supposed to be animated along with a handful of other things. More to come.

Building detailed pages

I'm gradually adding detailed pages to images. This means that instead of seeing the standard pop-up when you click on certain images, it will take you to a whole different page with an in-depth description and some additional images.

So how do you know which images have detailed pages to them? Look for images with a solid white border around it, you can't miss it. There are currently only two in the Black & White Art section.

The Corner is now serving cheap drinks

It's nice to have a page for me to do reviews and rants on random subjects so I created The Corner. There have been sections very similar to this in past versions of Sique.net so I figure I keep the tradition going. Plus, it's a great stress reliever. I'm kicking off The Corner with an article on the upcoming Silent Hill movie.

Sketches back in effect

I'm getting back into the sketches so that I can butter myself up for bigger projects to fulfill. I feel rusty and almost uneasy but I'm forcing myself to start now so that I can begin the process of remembering. The rules haven't changed; no erasing, no pencils, just ink, random thoughts, and me versus the nothing.

I know what's wrong with me

It's been nearly 5 years since Sique.net has been up and how many times have I redesigned this site? Don't answer that, it's embarrassing. After all this time I found out what my dilemma was. It seems that I have an unhealthy obsession in trying to please both my right and left brain. My left brain is the more logical, light-hearted side of me that wanted to use Sique as a basis for a clean designer's portfolio, while the right brain is the liberating, free-for-all-fuck-it bucket that wanted to use Sique for its twisted art. The schemes don't work well together; they just end up poisoning each other. This curse brought erratic waves of weekly, monthly, and sometimes yearly mood swings that would force me into redesigning the entire site.

Now that I have created Khoality.com to send off the left brain, I am able to rebuild Sique.net back up the way I have always envisioned it. Dirty as sin. At this point I cannot stress how exhausted I am of redesigning Sique. There was never some mysterious style that I was trying to capture through experimentation, I was simply not happy with the fact that I had to tone down Sique.net in order to maintain something of a sleek porftolio persona. All that is now resolved thanks to Sique's other half, so all I can say at this point is that I'm done and it's finally starting. No more surprise makeovers, just additions to what you're seeing here.

On a bizarre note, I haven't been commissioned to do any artwork (not design) in some time but just as I was completing Sique's current site, I was offered to do a CD album cover entitled, "The End of The Beginning." This title is definitely applying to the current state of Sique.net.
